5 Ways To Manage Stress
While In College
College is a time when young adults are finally on their own
and able to have some freedom. While it is certainly a time
to have fun and make new friends, it can become quite
stressful with difficult classes and an abundance of
homework and reading to take care of. Here are five ways to
manage stress while in college.
1. Control who is around you
Many college students make the mistake of trying to study or
do homework in the living room with all of the roommates in
the same room. For some this can work, but for many it just
creates a distraction. Not only will you be distracted, but
it will take you far longer to get work done than it would
if you were to step into a quite environment.
2. Exercise
Exercise has proven to be a great way to manage stress from
classes. It allows you to clear your head and relax. It does
not matter what you do to exercise, as long as you are
exercising three to four times a week. After exercising, you
will be amazed at how much more relaxed and calm you are.
3. Get sleep
One of the biggest problems college students have is not
getting enough sleep. You have to manage studying, going to
class, working, and fitting in time to party all in one day.
This can lead to very little sleep, which is a big factor
for stress to come on. Whatever you do, make sure you are
getting at least seven to eight hours of sleep a night to
refresh your mind for the next day.
4. Manage your time
As mentioned above, there is a lot going on all at once when
you lead a college life. One of the most important ways to
manage stress is to manage your time. There is nothing more
stressful than trying to finish a paper that is do the next
morning and having to squeeze it in between studying for
another test and work. Plan things out in advance so you can
relieve some of the unnecessary stress.
5. Have fun
It is important that you live up the college experience
because it only comes around once. These are supposed to be
some of the best years of your life. While it can become
stressful with work and school, make sure to give yourself
time to go out with friends and have a good time. There is
nothing better to relieve stress than having a good time
with friends.
Studies have shown that continuous stress is no good for
